Gospel Longings

1 Peter 1:10-12As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long to look.

The prophets of old searched carefully and sought diligently to know the gospel of Christ and His glory. The angels yearned to see and know the things which the Spirit of Christ so clearly revealed. How we are put to shame! If such holy men and holy angels had their appetites whetted with a partial knowledge of the glories of Calvary, how much more so we, who have the full counsel of God and the personal knowledge of regeneration, ought to indulge and be saturated in the riches of the gospel!
