This song was written in 2013 by Matt Merker, a member at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington D.C. Since then, it has been sung at large Christian conferences like Together for the Gospel (T4G) 2018. Shane & Shane, Keith & Kristyn Getty, Sovereign Grace, and Norton Hall Band (Boyce College) have also released recorded versions. To put it simply, the song has become pretty popular in just a few years.

My point is this: the Lord is still using ‘ordinary’ church people to write wonderful praises to His name — and biblical Christians love it. More Christians are rejecting mass-produced, tasteless, theologically lightweight music that passes as “Christian” music, and at that, my soul rejoices. I want to see Christians discard the junk on Christian radio that sounds like it was written in less than 5 minutes and instead return to the biblically rich, beautiful, church-produced praise songs that truly lift high the name of Jesus. He deserves much better than the hype of wanna-be rock stars; He deserves the praises of thanks to His glorious name (Hebrews 13:15).
