I'm Coming Back by Sojourn

Lyrics

I've wasted all I have
On things that will not last
I've run so very far
Away from You
I've tried to forget
Everything You said
And my stubborn foot have walked
The way of a fool
But I can't escape from You

So I'm coming back
I'm turning back to You
You loved me first
And now my soul thirsts for You
Alone

The way I've walked is death
And all my strength is spent
Chasing after wind
And fool's gold
But all my gold has turned to dust
And all my idols rusted over
I've gained the whole world
And lost my soul
And still I can't escape from You

Reflection

I think this is the only worship song I know that uses saxophone well. So cool.

But apart from the musicality of the song, I like the lyrics. It doesn’t minimize the sin that we have committed. It paints our rebellion and waywardness in picturesque, biblical language. And yet, it is not a lament without hope; coming back to the One who can satisfy the thirst of our soul is our hope of salvation!
