Journeying Through 2025
December 31, 2025
new year

So, how my year? Probably similar to yours—filled with joys and sorrows, heartache and elation. My friend, I charge you and myself: embrace the suffering for Christ's sake. For when we suffer in the path of obedience, trusting in the faithfulness of our God, walking by faith not by sight, we magnify our God, and inflame the hope that can never die.

Begging from the Beggar
November 26, 2009

You’ve seen them. They sit in the walk the streets at night, lounge in People’s Park, play music and dance, and ask for your money. They have shopping carts, sleeping bags, signs, boxes, and the occasional guitar. They’re the homeless of Berkeley. And this, this is the story of my encounter with one.

George Müller: Rooted in the Trustworthiness of God
biography
July 8, 2025

What would it look like to trust your Heavenly Father to provide for all your needs? What would it be like to believe that if you ask, He will give; that if you seek, you will find; that if you knock, He will open (Matt 7:7-11)?

It would look like George Müller, the pastor, orphan-lover, and missionary from the 19th century. He was a man who lived confident that his Heavenly Father would always provide.

Identity (Part 3): Delighted in God
identity, affections
July 31, 2023

Being a Christian is so much more than just going to church, learning right theology, and going through the motions of being a “good Christian.” I want all that you are—your heart, soul, mind, strength; your affections, desires, wants; your hopes, dreams, ambitions; your love, your joy, your peace—to be for our Savior. That is the good life. That is the abundant life that Christ promised, when we are enraptured with His love and fully happy in Him.

Identity (Part 1): Who Are You?
identity
July 29, 2023

Identity is crucial.1 Identity not only defines how we introduce ourselves, but also dictates how and why we live. Through our identity, we interpret the world, understand relationships, choose our actions, have stability, and worship. …Our problem is that there are a billion voices clamoring to define who and what we are.

The Johannine Concept of Abiding
Johannine, abide
June 23, 2023

“Abide with me; fast falls the eventide / The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.”[1] So begins the comforting hymn by Henry F. Lyte. But, to brusquely push past the sweetness of the lyrics, what does Lyte mean by ‘abide’? Is he asking Christ to tolerate him, wait for him, accept him, remain with him, continue with him, or dwell with him?[2]

Christians Don’t Sin
Johannine, sin
May 19, 2023

Do Christians have sin, or do they not? 1 John 1:8-9 teaches that a Christian must admit he has sin, or else be condemned for not having “the truth” (1:8) and making God “a liar” (1:10) Yet 1 John 3:6b seems to teach that if one does sin at all, he does not know Christ!
